Iran has claimed that the Aerospace Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) shot down a US MQ-9 Reaper drone in the airspace over the southwestern city of Ahvaz using an advanced air defense system.
According to Iran’s state broadcaster, the drone was targeted during an air defense operation and subsequently crashed after being hit.
The report said the operation involved one of Iran’s advanced air defense systems, but did not provide further details about the weapon used.
Iranian media described the MQ-9 Reaper as an unmanned aerial vehicle primarily used for surveillance, intelligence gathering, and, in some cases, precision strike missions.
The claim comes amid heightened tensions between the United States and Iran.
US officials have not confirmed the Iranian claim or issued an official response.
