A meeting of the negotiating committees is also expected ahead of the proposed meeting between the prime minister and the Jamaat-e-Islami chief. The committees are likely to discuss a clear agenda and specific proposals for abolishing the petroleum levy to facilitate progress on the issue.
Liaquat Baloch said abolishing the petroleum levy would provide genuine relief to the public. He added that the party had paused its super-long march at the prime minister’s request, but public rallies against the levy and a campaign to collect signatures on memorandums were continuing.
Baloch said Jamaat-e-Islami would continue its movement until a substantial relief package was secured for the public. He reiterated that protest activities would persist until the party’s demands were met.
