The move aims to prevent violations of privacy, harassment and blackmail through secret surveillance.
Under the government’s decision, strict legal action will be taken against the illegal use, purchase and sale of everyday items equipped with hidden cameras and recording devices, including glasses, pens, watches and other electronic gadgets.
Particular attention will be given to preventing the use of such devices to monitor people’s activities or record their personal information without their consent.
According to the Punjab government, a key objective of the decision is to ensure the safety of women and children and protect them from covert recording, illegal surveillance, harassment and blackmail.
The measure follows complaints concerning invasions of privacy and the misuse of personal information through spy devices.
The government said protecting citizens’ personal information, private lives and fundamental rights was essential. It added that illegal use of items equipped with hidden cameras would be discouraged and legal action would be taken against those responsible.
